Bobcats sweep past Dons

The Saddleback women's volleyball team defeated Santa Ana College, 3-0, on Friday inside the gymnasium.  It was win No. 99 for head coach Brian Hughes.

Saddleback and Santa Ana went five sets back in mid-September and the Bobcats were on a mission to make the match a little quicker the second time around in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) play.  Saddleback accomplished its goal, finishing off the Dons in straight sets in a match that took just 75 minutes.

Saddleback had big streaks in every set.  The Bobcats led 8-6 in the opening game before going on an 11-1 run to blow past the Dons.  Santa Ana then grabbed a 6-1 lead in game two before the Bobcats scored 11 of the next 12 points for a 12-7 lead.  Saddleback had it on cruise control in the third set to breeze to a 25-12, 25-14, 25-17 victory.

Saddleback is now 13-4 overall and 8-2 in OEC play.  The Bobcats currently sit in second place in conference play, one game back of Irvine Valley College.  Saddleback is scheduled to play at Santiago Canyon College on Wednesday night (6 PM) before returning home to play Irvine Valley next Friday (6 PM).

Game Notes:  Head coach Brian Hughes picked up his 99th win on Friday.  With one more win he would become just the second coach in program history to win 100 games.  Nancy Bessette ('76-'86) has the most wins in program history with 121.
