Former Bobcat wins Big West title

Former Saddleback College women's track & field star Jolie Robinson won the Big West Conference heptathlon championship at Cal State Fullerton on Saturday.  Robinson moved up two spots on the final day for UC Irvine to capture the title.

Robinson was the star of the Saddleback team last season when she won three separate events at the CCCAA State Championships, including the heptathlon.  She now has a Big West championship at UC Irvine after her performance over the weekend.

Robinson sat in third place going into the final day of competition with the long jump, javelin and 800 meters remaining.  She jumped 5.96 meters in the long jump before throwing a personal-best javelin of 42.63 meters on Saturday to put herself in a great spot.  Robinson then finished off the field in the 800 meters to win the event.

Robinson became the first heptathlon competitor from UC Irvine to win a conference title since 2007.  She finished with a personal-best score of 5,343 points to finish 88 points ahead of her closest competitor.  The score put her fifth all time in UC Irvine women's track & field history.

Robinson won the heptathlon, javelin and long jump state titles for Saddleback last year.  In addition, she played on the indoor volleyball squad this past fall.
