Bobcat freshman stars in opening meet

The Saddleback men's cross country team opened with a second place finish at the opening meet of the season in San Luis Obispo.  Nathan Trueman won the individual competition as the Bobcats finished within striking distance of first place.

Saddleback has a very young group of harriers in 2021 so many didn't know what to expect when they took to the countryside at the Tour de Cuesta on Friday in San Luis Obispo.  The young Bobcats responded nicely, finishing second among a trio of good squads.

Trueman was the top performer of the day, winning the 4-mile race in 22:27.3.  He was more than three seconds ahead of his closest competitor from Hartnell College.

Trueman wasn't alone in impressing on opening day.  Saddleback had two other top-10 finishers as Brandon Pintor finished fifth (22:55.8) and Santiago Sanchez was seventh (23:00.8).

Saddleback will compete again on Friday when they travel to Santa Clarita for the College of the Canyons Invite.
