Men’s XC runs fast in SLO

The men's cross country team opened the 2018 season with a third place finish at the Tour de Cuesta Meet in San Luis Obispo on Friday.  The Gauchos had five runner finish in the top-30.

Saddleback opened the season with a solid finish, running just behind Hartnell College and Chabot College, two programs that should be in the mix for a Northern California championship later this fall.

Saddleback had top-10 finishes from sophomore Scott Hickman and freshman Carlos De Jesus, who finished 8th and 9th, respectively.  They had one more just outside the top-10 in freshman Julian Lasting, who finished 11th.

Hickman covered the 4-mile event in 22:40.9, which was 18.6 seconds out of a top-5 finish.  De Jesus was right on his heels by crossing the finish line in 22:43.0 while Lasting covered the trek in 22:58.8.

Two other Saddleback runners finished in the top-30 as freshman Sebastian Arias ran 16th (23:16.9) and Connor Yartz was 30th (24:12.9).

Saddleback will run again this Friday when they travel south for the Palomar College Invitational.  The meet is scheduled to start at 9:00 AM at Guajome Park in Oceanside.
