Orozco wins Palomar Invitational to start 2015 season

Saddleback sensational sophomore Ulysses Orozco outran 102 other runners to capture the season-opening Palomar Invitational meet on Friday, finishing 15 seconds ahead of the runner-up finisher.

Orozco covered the four mile trek in 21:17 while teammates Wyndal Skarsten (21:53) placed fourth overall and Brian Aguirre (22:21) placed 13th overall.  Ronen Skarsten (22:47) and Miles Brubacher (22:49) placed 21st and 22nd, respectively, as the Gauchos finished second overall as a team with 61 points.  Cuyamaca captured the team title with 56 points.

It was an excellent start to the season for the Gauchos who did not have a full team as some runners were held back following an automobile accident a couple weeks ago which totalled all three vans the team was travelling in as they were headed out for a team-bonding training trip.

The team's overall finish placed them ahead of Orange Empire Conference rivals Orange Coast (80 points), Santa Ana (82), Fullerton (186), Santiago Canyon (237), and Golden West (374).
