Run Danna Run
The Saddleback women's cross-country team finished in third place at the Golden West Invitational on Friday in Huntington Beach. Danna Ibarra Canales was the story of the race, breezing across the finish line in first place.
Ibarra Canales won the women's 1,500 meters this past spring at the 3C2A State Track & Field Finals and has made it a point to keep her foot on the gas pedal this fall during the cross-country season. She was a dominating force on Friday, winning by more than 13 seconds over her closest competitor. Ibarra Canales' time of 18:57.48 on the 5k trek was blazing fast in a race with 141 harriers to start.
Ibarra Canales wasn't along in the top-10 as teammate Lailani Vivaldo finished eighth overall and seventh among team competitors. Vivaldo crossed the tape in 20:32.47.
Rounding out the team score for Saddleback were Kiana Zerehgar, Midori McConathy and Lillian Bigda. Zerehgar (21:20.71) finished 16th overall while McConathy (22:44.53) was 49th and Barrera (23:36.74) was 67th overall.
Saddleback's team scored was dead even with Riverside City College, but the Bobcats had an advantage in the NCAA tiebreaker rules to finish third.
Saddleback will be back in action on October 4 at the SoCal Preview at Chaffey College.
