Bobcats win Tour de Cuesta

The Saddleback women's cross country team won its first meet of the season at the Tour de Cuesta in San Luis Obispo on Friday afternoon.  Danna Ibarra Canales set a new program record on the course in winning the first event of the season.

Ibarra Canales is off to a hot start after winning the state championship in 1,500 meters at the 3C2A State Track & Finals this spring.  She blazed around the 5k trek in 19:55.6, which was nearly 46 seconds ahead of anyone in the field.

Saddleback finished with a team total of 41 points to finish first in the five-team event.  Leilani Vivaldo was third in the race when she crossed the finish line in 21:00.9.  The Bobcats rounded out the team score with Kiana Zerehgar (9th, 23:54.7), Midori McConathy (10th, 24:04.4) and Lillian Bigda (11th, 24:41.9).

Ibarra Canales' time of 19:55.6 broke the program record of 19:55.98 set by Gabby Delayo in 2014.

Saddleback will be back in action next Friday at the San Diego Kickoff at Harry Griffith Park.
