Cats roar at Tigers

The Saddleback women's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 win against Riverside City College on Wednesday night inside the gymnasium.  The Bobcats remain in a tie for first place in the Orange Empire Conference.

Saddleback started slowly, falling behind 8-4 in the opening set.  The Bobcats made a quick turnaround, scoring 21 of the next 33 points in downing the Tigers 25-20.

The win completely changed the momentum for both teams as Saddleback ran away from Riverside City in the final two sets. The Bobcats scored back-to-back 25-14 wins in sets two and three in cruising to an easy victory.

Saddleback's defense was great, making 60 digs over the three sets.  Brynn Craig-Kromm and Sophie Vienna both had 14 to lead the way while Lulu Utterback and Cori Willcoxson both had 11 apiece.

Saddleback's offense was a balanced attack.  Meghna Trujillo led the way with 10 kills on 16 attempts as five different Bobcats had seven-or-more kills.  Delaney Wilson was also efficient, finishing with nine kills on 16 attempts.  Vienna was the workhorse getting them the ball, finishing with 37 assists.

Saddleback is now 17-4 overall and 13-1 in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) play.  The win extended Saddleback's winning streak to seven straight matches and it was the 10th sweep of the season.  The Bobcats are tied atop the OEC standings with Orange Coast College with two matches remaining in the regular season.

Saddleback faces Orange Coast on Friday night in Costa Mesa at 6:00 PM.
