Volleyball cruises past SCC

The Saddleback women's volleyball team won its fifth straight game with a 3-0 victory over Santiago Canyon College on Wednesday night inside the gymnasium.  The Bobcats remain in a tie for first place in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC).

Saddleback had a slow start but managed to bounce back in the opening set for a 25-21 win.  The Bobcats then cruised the rest of the way, downing the Hawks over the final two sets (25-17, 25-17) to win a fifth straight match.

Saddleback had a balanced attack on offense, with Meghna Trujillo leading the way with a .381 kill percentage.  Trujillo was 7-of-13 on attempts for the night.  Sophie Vienna led the way with 34 assists while Cori Willcoxson and Brynn Craig-Kromm both finished with 10 digs apiece.  Saddleback was also solid back at the service line, finishing with 15 service aces over three sets.

Saddleback has lost just once in the past 12 matches and has recorded eight shutouts over that span.  The Bobcats now have nine shutouts for the year.

Saddleback will play again on Friday when it hosts inter-district rival Irvine Valley College.  The Bobcats and Lasers are scheduled to start at 6:00 PM inside the gymnasium.
