Cats outlast Wolverines in five

The Saddleback women's volleyball team ran its winning streak to two with a 3-2 victory over San Bernardino Valley College on Friday night in San Bernardino.  The Bobcats ran away from the Wolverines in the final set.

The battle was tight as both teams shared wins over the first four sets.  San Bernardino Valley opened with a 25-21 win before Saddleback rallied for a pair of 25-23 wins to take a 2-1 lead.  San Bernardino Valley then rallied for a win in set four (25-23) to force a fifth and final set.  The Bobcats finally took control in the final set, cruising to a 15-8 win.

Meg Gardner had a big night, leading the team with 23 kills and six service aces while finishing with 17 digs in the defensive end.  Sophie Vienna finished with 51 assists while Brynn Craig-Kromm had a team-high 19 digs with three service aces. In addition, Cori Willcoxson was an all-around force, finishing with 22 kills, five service aces and 18 digs.  In total, Saddleback had 17 service aces for the night.

Saddleback is now 2-1 overall for the season.  The Bobcats will host MiraCosta College on Wednesday night in the home-opener.  The Bobcats and Spartans are scheduled to start at 6:00 PM inside the gymnasium.
