The Saddleback women's volleyball team defeated Santiago Canyon College, 3-1, on Friday night at Santiago Canyon. With the win, the Gauchos move to .500 for the year.
Saddleback was coming off a tough five-set loss to Orange Coast College on Wednesday night and many wondered how they would respond after a disappointing loss. The Gauchos answered with a hard-fought win, outdueling the Hawks in four sets.
Saddleback opened with a 25-21 win in the opening set before falling 25-27 in set two. The Gauchos then beat the Hawks 25-23 in both of the next two sets to improve to 4-6 in Orange Empire Conference play.
Ronnie Robinson and Ireland Ridill led Saddleback with 18 kills apiece while Kenzie Huston chipped in with 13. Ellie Groh was busy all night, finishing with 45 assists.
Saddleback will play again on Wednesday when they host Cypress College. The Gauchos (9-9, 4-6) and Chargers (9-6, 5-4) are scheduled to start at 6:00 PM in the Saddleback Gymnasium.
