Cats swat away Hornets for OEC win

The Saddleback women's tennis team defeated Fullerton College, 7-2, on Tuesday at the Saddleback Tennis Complex.  The win puts the Bobcats one game above .500 in Orange Empire Conference play.

Saddleback took its lumps earlier in the season but seems to be getting hot at the right time.  The Bobcats won their third match in the past four tries with a dominating win against Fullerton on Tuesday.

Saddleback swept through Fullerton in doubles play to start the day, beating the Hornets 24-7 in total games.  Ainsley Beresford and Sydney Grove were dominant at No. 1 doubles, breezing past their competition (8-0).  Ellie Maruna and Averie Valverde were 8-3 winners at No. 2 doubles while Kellie Hoang and Deena Marzban were 8-4 winners at No. 3 doubles.

Beresford, Hoang, Maruna (pictured) and Marzban all went on to win in singles play as the Bobcats won 4-of-6 matches.  Beresford was a dominating force, winning (6-1, 6-0) at No. 1 singles.

Saddleback is now 5-7 overall and 4-3 in Orange Empire Conference play.  The Bobcats finish conference play on Thursday when they host Riverside City College.  Match time is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
