Gauchos battle past Warriors
The Saddleback women's tennis team improved to 2-1 on the season with a 6-3 victory at El Camino College on Thursday in Torrance. The Gauchos showed depth on the back end of the lineup to secure the win.
Saddleback started with a pair of wins at doubles to take a 2-1 lead into singles play. The duo of Kristina Parks and Abril Marziali were 8-4 winners over Stephanie Kingham and Victoria Gorodetskaya on court two while Sydney Page and Kimiya Ataiyan were taking care of business on court three with an 8-3 win over Amanda Vitanatchi and Danielle Wagner.
Saddleback then took to the courts needing three wins in singles play and added a fourth for good measure. Jacklyn Melkonian got things off to a good start with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles to give the Gauchos a third point in the team match.
Parks recorded her second win of the day with a comfortable 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles before Marziali closed out the team match with a 6-1, 6-2 win on court five. Ataiyan then added insurance with a dominating 6-1, 6-0 on court six.
The Gauchos will play next when they travel to Ventura next weekend.
