No drama against the Brahmas

No drama against the Brahmas

The Saddleback women's soccer team opened the playoffs with a 3-1 victory over Los Angeles Pierce College on Saturday night inside the stadium.  The Bobcats will host Santa Monica College on Tuesday in the next round of the playoffs.

Saddleback came into the game as heavy favorites and did what they needed to do to advance to the next round of the playoffs.  The Bobcats controlled the play from beginning to end against a Pierce team that came into the game looking to dethrone the queen.

Saddleback had two goals from Anjelina Nieto in the opening half in silencing any thought of an upset.  Nieto scored her sixth goal of the season off a pass from Alexis Wright in the 30th minute to open the scoring.  She then buried her seventh of the season off a fabulous cross from Summer Hackett in the 38th minute and the Bobcats were off and running.

Saddleback outshot Pierce 12-0 in the opening frame as the defense was up to their old tricks.  The Bobcats scored again in the 74th minute when Alexa Livingstone delivered a cross into the box and Alyssa Sims planted a header into the twine for a 3-0 lead.

Saddleback then inserted fresh jerseys into the game over the final 15 minutes in order to get some of the others on the roster some valuable playoff experience.  The Bobcats surrendered a goal in the 89th minute when called for a penalty inside the box to award Pierce with a penalty kick.  Victoria Castro delivered a goal for the Brahmas for a final count of 3-1.

Saddleback is now 20-0-1 overall for the season.  The Bobcats will host Santa Monica College on Tuesday night at 7:00 PM in the second round of the 3C2A Southern California Regional Tournament after Santa Monica upset MiraCosta College, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon.

GAME NOTES:  Saddleback extended its unbeaten string to 28 games on Saturday. The last time the Bobcats lost a game was on November 4 of last season.   Saddleback has now won 14 straight games, breaking the old record of 13 which spread over two seasons (end of 2022, beginning of 2023).
