Still unbeaten

The Saddleback women's soccer team finished the regular season with a 2-1 victory over Santiago Canyon College on Thursday inside the stadium.  With the win, the Bobcats head to playoffs at 19-0-1.

Saddleback clinched the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) title a few days ago and the only thing remaining on a long list of accomplishments was whether or not they could finish the regular season without a loss.  The Bobcats accomplished the goal with a hard-fought win over a program that once won 15 straight OEC titles.

Saddleback received some help on the opening goal when the Bobcats put a pass through the box and a Santiago Canyon player inadvertently tipped it into the goal in the 16th minute.  The Bobcats took control in the second half when Summer Hackett fed Anjelina Nieto for her fifth goal of the season and a 2-0 lead.

Santiago Canyon wasn't about to go down quietly.  The Hawks made it 2-1 in the 73rd minute when Jordon Salinas scored her seventh goal of the season.  The Hawks would get no closer as the Saddleback defense clamped down and took away any good scoring chances over the final 18+ minutes.

Saddleback's win was a program-record 13th straight win.  The Bobcats also ran their unbeaten string to 27 games with the win.  One streak was broken, however, as Santiago Canyon snapped the shutout streak with their lone goal.  Saddleback had gone a program-record 677 minutes without surrendering a goal.

Saddleback finishes the regular season 19-0-1 and 13-0-1 in OEC play.  The Bobcats will find out their playoff seed in the coming days.
