Soccer gets 6-seed, will play Moorpark

The Saddleback women's soccer team found out on Tuesday that it had earned the 6-seed for the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs and will host Moorpark College on Saturday.  The game will be played at Irvine Valley College due to field constraints.

Saddleback had its best season in program history, finishing the regular season 16-3-2 overall and 12-2-2 in Orange Empire Conference play.  The season was highlighted by two wins against both Santiago Canyon College and Cypress College, programs that have combined for five state championships in the past 17 years.

The game will take place at Irvine Valley College at 11:00 AM due to improper field dimensions at Saddleback College.  The post-season handbook defines a minimum field size for post-season play and the Saddleback Stadium does not sufficiently meet the requirements.

Saddleback finished in second place in OEC play, two points back of Santiago Canyon and three points in front of Cypress.  It was the first time that the program had finished higher than third place in the 15-year history of the program.  Saddleback is led by the dynamic freshman duo of Emilee Monnig and Breanna Taboada, who combined for 26 goals for the year. The Gauchos were also solid in the defensive end, allowing one-or-less goals in 14 games and finishing with eight shutouts.

Moorpark finished 10-2-7 overall and 7-0-3 in Western State North Division play.  The Raiders tied for the divisional championship with Los Angeles Pierce College.  Moorpark is led by freshman Breanna Pilkington and freshman Madison Murray, who both scored 12 goals during the course of the season.

The two programs played zero common opponents during the season.
