Gauchos still perfect through two

Gauchos still perfect through two

The Saddleback women's soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 2-0 win at MiraCosta College on Tuesday in Oceanside.  Emilee Monnig scored a pair of goals for the second straight game while the defense was stifling.

Saddleback has played 180 minutes of soccer during the 2015 campaign and has yet to surrender a goal.  The keeper combination of Shana Leventhal (right) and Angelica Ramos (left) remained perfect through two games, combining for six total saves on the day.

Meanwhile, Monnig (middle) scored two more goals, upping her season total to four.  She scored in the 34th minute off a pass from Brittney Stevens as Saddleback carried a 1-0 lead into halftime.  Monnig again found the back of the net in the 61st minutes off a pass from Sabrina Garrido, giving the Gauchos some breathing space.

"The ladies have played well so far," head coach B.J. McNicol said.  "They played solidly today and controlled the midfield."

Saddleback will look to win a third straight game to start the season on Friday when they travel to Mt. San Jacinto College to take on the Eagles.  The kickoff is set for 3:00 PM.
