Bobcats finish third at state finals

The Saddleback women's golf team brought home some hardware on Monday with a third place finish at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships in Morro Bay, California.  The Bobcats made a late run but came up short by six shots.

Saddleback had a tough start the tournament on Sunday when they put themselves in a hole with a team score of 343.  The Bobcats played better on Monday, but came up an eyelash short after shooting 329.

Modesto Junior College had a tremendous finish for a second straight season in winning a second straight championship.  The Pirates shot 316 on Monday to beat the Bobcats by six at the two-day event.  College of the Canyons led after the opening round but finished second after shooting 337 on Monday.

Nicole Whipple led Saddleback with back-to-back rounds of 79 on the 5,633-yard, par-72 course.  The Bobcats had a great finish from Lia Harvey and Sabrina Ladd, who shot 81 and 83, respectively, on Monday.  Karissa Flores rounded on the team score on Monday with a round of 86.

Whipple's two-day total of 158 was good enough for a third place finish in medalist play.

The third place finish by the team on Monday was the third best finish in the history of the program.  Saddleback won the state title in 2003 and finished second in 2021.
