Bobcats third heading into final round

The Saddleback women's golf team is in third place after the opening round at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Golf Tournament in Morro Bay.  The Bobcats will be looking to rally on Monday in the final round of the season.

Saddleback shot 343 as a team on a day when scores were high throughout the field.  The Bobcats trail College of the Canyons by 12 shots and Reedley College by two shots, hoping to make a run to what would be the first state title for the program since 2003.

Nicole Whipple shot 79 to lead the Saddleback squad.  She was followed by Caitlin Randolph (86), Kenzie Edson (89) and Lia Harvey (89).  Whipple is in third place in medalist play after one round, trailing Fullerton's Catherine Lee by four shots.  The two players have been neck-and-neck all season, with Lee edging Whipple for the Orange Empire Conference player-of-the-year and Whipple dominating play at the Southern California Regional Championships last week.
