Tapia is latest Gaucho commitment

The Saddleback women's basketball team was back in the news this week as the basketball office announced that sophomore Laura Tapia has committed to continue her career at the four-year level.  Tapia signed a letter of intent to play at Bethesda University.

Tapia played her first year of basketball at Southwestern College before heading to Saddleback for her sophomore season in 2016-17.  She averaged 12.2 points and 3.8 rebounds-per-game, playing in all 31 games for the Gauchos.  Tapia led the team with 68 three-pointers made during the season and was second on the team in both assists (93) and steals (58).  She had a season-high in points on two different occasions, scoring 24 against both San Joaquin Delta College on November 18 and Santa Ana College on January 20.

Tapia joins former Saddleback player Angela Steele on a roster coached by former Gaucho assistant coach Patti Medina.  Her signing is the third of the year for Saddleback after Kiazha Ginwright signed at Stillman College in Alabama and Janae Omusi signed with Kennesaw State in Georgia.  More are expected in the coming weeks.

Bethesda University is located in Anaheim, California.  The Flames play in the National Christian College Athletic Association.
