Moon is one of the stars in game two

The Saddleback softball team won a second straight game from Santa Ana College on Wednesday in Santa Ana.  The Bobcats had a great performance from Averi Moon in moving into fifth place in conference play.

Moon started on the mound and kept the Dons quiet while the offense was building up a lead.  She pitched 3.1 innings while spreading around five hits. Macy Smith was sensational in relief, pitching the final 3.2 innings and allowing just two runners to reach base in improving to 2-4 on the season.

Moon was also active at the plate, leading the offense with a pair of RBI.  Her double to left field in the opening inning gave the Bobcats a 2-0 lead after Santa Ana had made a critical error in the field.

Saddleback led 3-1 heading into the fifth inning when they added solo runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.  McKenzie Lombard doubled home Skye Manda for a 4-1 lead in the fifth inning and then Lily Troiano and Macy Smith pulled off a double-steal in the top of the sixth inning for the final tally of the game.

Saddleback is now 10-13 overall and 4-6 in Orange Empire Conference play following the win.  The Bobcats are now alone in fifth place in the standings, one game back of Golden West College.

Saddleback and Santa Ana will finish the three-game series on Thursday at Esencia Park.  The first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
