Varela headlines All-OEC Team

The Saddleback softball program was back in the news this week as the coaches convened to determine the All-Orange Empire Conference Team.  Rachel Varela was the headliner for the Bobcats, making the first team.

Varela led the team, batting .435 for the season.  She played in all 21 games, leading the team in hits (27) while finishing second in doubles (7), RBI (8), walks (5) and runs-scored (11).  Her biggest day of the season came at Golden West when she had seven straight hits in a double-header, finishing 7-for-9 with three RBI and four runs-scored.

Joining Varela as second team selections were Marilyn Francisco and Emma Estep.  Francisco batted .348 with one home and eight RBI while playing in all 21 games.  Estep batted .300 in 15 games, leading the team with four sacrifice hits and 10 RBI.
