Welk signs deal with Kansas Wesleyan

The Saddleback softball program was back in the news this week with the announcement that sophomore Paige Welk has made a commitment to a four-year school.  Welk signed a letter-of-intent to play at Kansas Wesleyan University, according to the softball office.

Welk played 1+ seasons at Saddleback, playing a full season in 2019 before seeing the 2020 season cut short due to the Coronavirus.  She played in 49 games total for the Gauchos, collecting 34 hits, five doubles and 23 RBI.

During her freshman campaign, Welk garnered Orange Empire Conference Honorable Mention status after leading the team with a .348 batting average for the season.  In addition, she led the team in on-base percentage for the year (.452).  Welk batted .391 during the Orange Empire Conference schedule in 2019, leading the team with 18 hits.

Welk will attend Kansas Wesleyan University, located in Salina, Kansas.  The Coyotes played under the NAIA umbrella within the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.  KWU was enjoying a 14-8 start the season before the season was cut short.

Welk lettered in softball and water polo at Dana Hills High School before graduating in 2018.  While at DHHS, Welk was a team captain for water polo for two years and lettered in softball three times.
