New tennis facility is impressive

The Saddleback athletics department has been in the midst of some significant upgrades over the past 18 months, one of which is a new tennis facility.  The completion date is imminent for what could be the best tennis facility in the country.

The new digs feature eight courts, two of which are considered multi-use courts that have the ability to be transitioned into eight pickleball courts or a futsal court.  It also has two team locker rooms with flat screen televisions for coaching instruction, four restrooms and a unique competition (championship) court with bleachers and a shade structure.  In addition, official umpire chairs have been installed for tournament-style competition.

"The new tennis center, combined with the new stadium complex, represents a major commitment to excellence for Saddleback students and the community," Saddleback athletics director Randy Totorp said.  "We are excited to provide top university level experience for our student-athletes and those that get to use the facility."

Saddleback tennis hopes to compete in the spring provided the Coronavirus pandemic cooperates and allows for a season of competition.  For those interested in playing tennis at Saddleback contact men's tennis coach Bud Davis (949-582-4641, budley49@hotmail.com) or women's tennis coach Jay Amos (949-582-4261, jayamos@cox.net).
