The Saddleback men's soccer team defeated Santa Ana College, 3-0, on Tuesday at Santa Ana. The Bobcats remain alone in third place with one game remaining in the regular season.
Saddleback stunned Santa Ana early, scoring goals in the 16th and 22nd minutes to take a 2-0 lead. Zerak Ayoub scored off a pass from Andrew Jun to open the scoring. Six minutes later Tyler Petersen scored off a pass from Jason Starcks and the Bobcats were off and running.
Saddleback held the 2-0 advantage until putting the game out of reach in the second half. Santa Ana received a red card in the 76th minute and Saddleback quickly responded with another goal when Gus Roetcisoender beat the keeper for a 3-0 lead.
Saddleback finished with a 15-8 advantage in total shots and an 8-4 advantage in shots-on-goal. Tyler Bourbonnais played the entire game in goal, making four saves in improving to 3-1-2 on the season.
Saddleback is now 9-5-5 overall and 6-3-4 in Orange Empire Conference play. The Bobcats have now won three straight games.
Saddleback finishes the regular season at Fullerton College on Friday. The Bobcats and Hornets are scheduled to start at 6:00 PM in Fullerton.
