Men’s golf now alone in second

The Saddleback men's golf team moved into sole possession of second place in the Orange Empire Conference with a solid performance at Victoria Country Club on Monday in Riverside.  The Gauchos tied for second this week and now hold a narrow lead over both Cypress College and Santiago Canyon College.

With three weeks left in the conference schedule, Saddleback is starting to play its best golf of the year and finished in a tie with Orange Coast for second place on Monday. The Gauchos had their second best round of the conference season on Monday by firing a 22-over-par round of 382 on the 6,517-yard layout.

Saddleback used a consistent roster on Monday, with all five scores being 80-or-better.  Jack Lutz was the leader, shooting 1-over-par 73 to finish third in individual play.  It was the best round of the season for Lutz, who moved up to ninth overall in the conference individual play standings.

Saddleback also had a pair of 75's as Nick Prudhomme and Alex Diaz continued their hot play in recent weeks.

Saddleback trails Orange Coast by eight games in conference play with three matches remaining (each match worth five games).  The Gauchos will play again next Wednesday at Oak Creek Golf Course.
