Small comes up big at Santa Ana CC

The Saddleback men's golf team had its best outing of the season on Wednesday in finishing third at the weekly Orange Empire Conference match at Santa Ana Country Club.  Kyle Small paced the team in finishing fourth in individual medal play.

Small entered the day outside the top-20 in the individual standings and when all was said and done now stands at 19th after a three-over-par round of 75.  His fourth place finish on Wednesday was followed by a ninth place finish by Thomas King, who shot 76.  It was King's best round of the year and vaulted the Gauchos into third place finish in team play.

Saddleback started the day finishing between fourth and sixth in all six matches in Orange Empire Conference play so far.  At the end of the day the Gauchos were just eight shots back of defending state champion Riverside College and 17 shots back of Santiago Canyon College, who picked up its third win of the season.  Riverside and Santiago Canyon are separated by just one game in the conference standings.

In addition to Small and King, Saddleback also had a 13th place finish from Nick Prudhomme (79) on the challenging 6,536-yard, par-72 layout.

Saddleback will have two weeks off before heading to Victoria Country Club on April 6.
