Davis honored while Gauchos rise in polls

The Saddleback football team keeps winning games, and with it comes praise and respect from the pollsters.  The Gauchos had another athlete win a player-of-the-week honor this week while jumping up higher in the state and national rankings.

DaQu'an Davis was selected by the Southern California Coaches Association as the Special Teams/All-Purpose Player-of-the-Week this past week after helping Saddleback to a critical 48-45 win over El Camino College.    The sophomore from Coronado High School (NV) had 153 yards in kick returns while making a catch at wide receiver.

Davis is the sixth Gaucho to win a player-of-the-week award through four games, joining Christian Rabay, Cam Humphrey, Jake Hudson, Corey Selenski and Chris Spiering.

Saddleback also saw more praise from the ballots this week as the Gauchos rose to No. 4 in the state in the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) poll.  In addition, they jumped one spot to No. 7 in the nation in the JCGridiron.com Dirty 30 Rankings

Saddleback will be back in action when they travel to Ventura College (2-2) on Saturday.  The Gauchos and Pirates are scheduled to kickoff at 6:00 PM in Ventura.
