Four more Bobcats on the move

Four more Bobcats on the move

The Saddleback baseball program was back in the news this morning with the news that four more members of the 2021 squad have signed letters of intent.  That makes five Bobcats signing with four-year programs this spring.

Antonino Vultaggio, Rhys Stevens, Nation Wood and Scott Armstrong all played on the team during the spring and they join Curren Larson, who played last spring, in signing with four-year schools.  Vultaggio will play at Cal State Bakersfield, Wood at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Stevens and Armstrong both signed with Cal Poly Pomona.  Larsen had signed earlier with Connecticut.

Vultaggio batted .317 this spring in 15 games, leading the team with a .512 slugging percentage.  He will play at Bakersfield, a D1 program in the Big West Conference.  The Roadrunners finished 20-23 this spring.

Wood will continue his career at San Luis Obispo after batting .284 for the year.  He tied for the team lead in home runs (3) and stolen bases (3) while finishing second in bases-on-balls (12) and third in RBI (19).  SLO plays in the Big West Conference and finished 31-25 this spring.

Stevens and Armstrong will both transfer to Cal Poly Pomona after being half of the starting rotation for the Bobcats this spring.  Stevens finished 4-1 on the mound with a 3.79 ERA, leading the team in innings pitched (38) and strikeouts (47).  Armstrong was 1-3 with one save, finishing second on the team in innings pitched (36) and strikeouts (43).  Cal Poly Pomona plays an NCAA D2 schedule within the California Collegiate Athletic Association.  The Broncos had the season off due to COVID-19.
