Former Gaucho passes away

The Saddleback athletic department was saddened to hear that former Gaucho pitcher Ryan Poe had passed away on Friday in Upland.  Poe played for Saddleback in the late 90's.

According to the Orange County Register, Poe passed away on Friday at the San Antonio Regional Hospital in Upland due to a staff infection.  He was 42 years old.

Poe led Saddleback to the state title game in 1998 after going 14-1 and setting numerous records.  He was the state Player-of-the-Year in 1998, finishing with a 2.56 ERA.  Following his career at Saddleback, Poe was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers.

Poe still holds Saddleback program records for most wins in a season (14), career victories (21), career innings pitched (218) and is second all-time in career strikeouts (181).

Poe was most recently been a volunteer coach at Roosevelt High School in Eastvale.  He had also coached in the Eastvale Little League and was a successful coach for a number of travel teams.
