Diaz leads Gauchos past Chaffey

The Saddleback baseball team remained unbeaten on Tuesday with a 9-4 win at Chaffey College.  The Gauchos and Panthers were tied 4-4 after six innings before Saddleback silenced the home crowd in Rancho Cucamonga.

Saddleback kept its foot on the pedal on Tuesday and eventually wore down a Chaffey unit that ran out of gas.  The Gauchos scored in six different innings, led by Dylan Diaz (pictured).  The sophomore from San Juan Hills High School finished 4-for-5 with three doubles, wearing out Panther pitching.

Chaffey had a 3-2 lead after two innings and kept things close until the late innings when the Gaucho bullpen took command.  Domnique Key silenced the Chaffey lineup in the middle innings in picking up his first win of the season.  He gave way to Kyle Goodbrand, who nailed down the final innings in picking up his first save.

Through four games, Diaz is now 8-for-16 at the plate with four extra-base hits.

The 4-0 start is the best for Saddleback since starting the 2013 campaign 6-0.

Saddleback will try to improve on its hot start on Saturday when it hosts Santa Barbara City College in a double-header at Doug Fritz Field.  Game one is scheduled to start at 1:00pm.
