Gauchos impale Knights for 2-0 start

The Saddleback baseball team took to the road for the first time in 2015 and came away with a 13-5 win at San Diego City College.  The Gauchos scored five times in the fourth inning and seven more times in the fifth in unhorsing the Knights.

Saddleback had a narrow win in its opener earlier in the week and in game two had time to take a few breaths of fresh air on Friday.  The Gauchos took a 6-1 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning after erupting for five in the top half of the inning on the strength of three hits and four walks.  They would score seven more times in the fifth inning as Alex King had two hits in the inning and Saddleback sent 11 batters to the plate.

King would finish 4-for-4 at the plate batting in the eight-hole.  He now has five hits in two games with an .875 slugging percentage.  In addition to King, Ryan Fitzpatrick (pictured) was 2-for-3 with three RBI, two of which came in the fifth inning on a double to left-center field.

Saddleback finished with 12 hits and 11 walks on the day, punishing a San Diego City pitching staff.  Meanwhile, the Gaucho staff was efficient, surrendering nine hits while striking out seven.  Jacob Worrell came in for starter Trevor Charpie in the fourth inning and pitched four innings of shutout ball in picking up his first win of the year.

With the win, Saddleback is 2-0 to start the season.  It is the first time Saddleback has won its first two games since opening the season 6-0 in 2013.  Saddleback will try to make it three in a row tomorrow when it hosts San Diego City at 12:00 PM at Doug Fritz Field.
