Reid goes 3-for-3
The Saddleback swim and dive team opened the Orange Empire Conference schedule by hosting the meet on Friday at the Saddleback Swim Complex. Julia Reid was a star for the Bobcats, winning three events at the OEC opener.
The Orange Empire Conference has a history like no other when it comes to swimming, as the conference has four of the past seven state title winners with Orange Coast College, and five of the past 10 if you throw in Golden West College. So, having said that, winning any individual event at a meet is a tough challenge.
Julia Reid won three of them on her own on Friday as the Bobcats finished fourth as a team at the opening Orange Empire Conference meet of the year.
Reid opened with a win the 50 Freestyle when she touched the pad in 25.51. The time shaved over a second off of her time a week ago, which is a good improvement in the early part of the season.
Reid then won at the 100 Breaststroke, an event that she finished eighth at the state finals a year ago. Reid finished in 1:11.05 to win by more than 3.5 seconds to claim her second win of the day.
Reid finished the day by capturing the 100 Freestyle in a time of 56.63. It was 0.92 quicker than a week ago at Golden West and 0.60 faster than anyone else in the water.
