Gauchos finish 22nd at state

The Saddleback swim and dive season came to a close over the weekend at East Los Angeles College and the Gauchos finished in the top-25 for the second year in a row.  Saddleback was 22nd overall, which is the second best finish for the program over the past seven years.

Saddleback was in 21st place after day one and remained in a similar spot throughout the meet.  The Gauchos had three athletes earn points, with Nicolette Spriggs, Raselle Chetwynd and Kailey Banayat leading the way.

Spriggs (left) was the only Gaucho to earn points on day one when she finished in fourth place in the 1-meter dive.  She followed it up with a seventh place finish in the 3-meter dive on Friday.

Chetwynd also earned points in two events at the meet, finishing in 12th place in both the 100 fly and 200 fly events.  Chetwynd earned her points in the prelims on Friday but didn't make the final eight for the finals on Saturday.

Banayat had a similar fate in the backstroke, finishing in 13th place in the preliminary heats.

Saddleback finished in 22nd place out of the 47 programs represented at the state meet.  It was the second straight year of finishing in the top-25 and the first time finishing in the top-25 for back-to-back seasons since 2008-09.
