Saddleback qualifies for state championship event

The Saddleback women's golf team followed Monday's team score of 360 by posting a team score of 356 on Tuesday to finish with a two-day, 36-hole total of 716 in finishing fourth out of six teams at the CCCAA South Regional held at the Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills.

The Gauchos couldn't catch conference-rival Irvine Valley College (700) for third place but created a larger distance between fifth-place College of the Desert (738) and qualified as one of the four teams to represent Southern California at the CCCAA State Championship tournament which will be played this Sunday and Monday on the Morro Bay golf course.  Santa Barbara City College (633) won the regional team title by one stroke over Cuyamaca College (634).

Mekenzie Purcell and Deanna Pagaduan shot identical scores of 173 (86-87) to lead the Gauchos.  Carly Perone (93-92) and Brooke Yafckli (95-90) posting matching 185's.

It was a team effort as no individual Saddleback player finished amongst the Top 20 in the field of 60 players.
