Cats win fourth straight

The Saddleback women's basketball team won its fourth straight game on Thursday with a 48-44 victory over Fullerton College inside the gymnasium.  The Bobcats are now just a game out of fifth place with one game remaining.

Saddleback has one of the youngest teams in the state.  The Bobcats showed a lot of growing pains early when losing its first nine conference games and dropping 10 games below .500 for the season.  Fast-forward the clock two weeks, and Saddleback is suddenly one of the hottest teams in the conference and surging towards the finish line.

Saddleback took the lead on Thursday at the 6:18 mark of the first quarter when Lineni Uaine made a layup for a 4-2 lead.  The Bobcats would never trail again in beating a Fullerton squad that is in a good position to make the 3C2A Southern California Regional Playoffs.

Saddleback had a big first quarter, jumping out to an eight-point lead on the Hornets.  The Bobcats used defense to build up the lead, holding Fullerton to 26% shooting in the opening quarter.

Saddleback's defense would only get better, holding the Hornets to 23% shooting on the night.  The Bobcats forced 15 turnovers while recording five blocked shots in frustrating a Fullerton lineup that couldn't buy a basket from the outside.  Fullerton made only 2-of-22 shots from beyond the arc as Saddleback recorded its 10th win of the season.

Offensively, Aleksia Gadea had her second biggest game of the season as she recorded 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting.  Gadea also recorded 10 rebounds, three blocked shots and four assists in playing all 40 minutes of the game.

Saddleback had one other player in double-figures as Alex Surrena-Thompson finished with 12 points while collecting seven rebounds.

Saddleback finished with 47 rebounds for the game, which was the fourth highest total of the season.

Saddleback is now 10-16 overall and 3-9 in Orange Empire Conference play.  The Bobcats have two games remaining, statrting on Wednesday when they host Irvine Valley College at 6:00 PM inside the gymnasium.
