Bobcats snap cold streak

The Saddleback women's basketball team snapped a 10-game losing streak with a 77-65 victory over Riverside City College on Friday night inside the gymnasium.  The Bobcats only trailed for one minute in the entire game.

Riverside City took a 2-0 lead on the opening possession of the game when Kaila Esau made a jumper to give the Tigers an early advantage.  It was the last time RCC would lead for the rest of the contest as Saddleback easily played its best game since late December.

Saddleback had sensational performances from Lineni Uaine, Moanike'ala Scott and Alex Surrena-Thompson, who combined for 59 points in the game.  Uaine had 18 points and 22 rebounds, coming within three rebounds of the school record set by Joice Beda in 2019.  Scott finished with a game-high 23 points on 10-of-22 shooting from the field.  Thompson finished with 18 points and nine rebounds.

The game was physical throughout, with 49 fouls being called in the game.  The Bobcats were impressive on the glass, outrebounding the Tigers 49-43 while forcing Riverside City into 31 turnovers on the night.

Saddleback had one other finish in double-figures as Kayla Musurlian collected 10 points.

Saddleback is now 7-16 overall and 1-9 in Orange Empire Conference play.  It was the first win for the Bobcats since beating Lassen College in the San Jose City College Tournament on December 29.

Saddleback will try to make it two wins in a row on Saturday when they travel to Los Angeles Southwest College for a non-conference game.  The Bobcats and Cougars are scheduled to start at 3:00 PM.
