Gauchos too much for Lady Dons

The Saddleback women's basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak with an 80-64 win over Santa Ana College on Tuesday night at the Saddleback Gymnasium.  The Gauchos finish the regular season on Thursday night before entering the playoffs next week.

Saddleback started quickly and never let Santa Ana in the game over the final 25 minutes.  Kiazha Ginwright and Janae Omusi were too much for Santa Ana, combining for 52 points and 21 rebounds.

Ginwright had arguably her best performance of the year, frustrating Santa Ana on both ends of the court.  She finished with a season-high 28 points on 9-of-19 shooting, but may have even been better in the defensive end where she had six steals and finished with 13 rebounds.  At one point she had steals on three straight possessions in the fourth quarter, forcing Santa Ana coach Flo Luppani to use one of her final timeouts.

Omusi was her dominant-self inside, finishing with 24 points while collecting eight rebounds.  She scored in double-figures for the 27th time this season in 29 games and was just two rebounds short of her 13th double-double.

Saddleback blew the game open in the fourth quarter, leading by as many as 27 points.  The Gauchos finished shooting 46% from the field while forcing 17 turnovers in the defensive end.

Saddleback (21-8, 8-3) will finish the regular season at home on Thursday when they host Fullerton College at 7:00 PM.
