
Cats plead the fifth
The Saddleback softball team defeated San Diego City College, 9-0, on Tuesday afternoon at the Saddleback Softball Complex. If was the fifth straight win and the 12th overall.
The Bobcats had 15 hits in four at-bats in beating the Knights by the Mercy Rule in five innings.
Saddleback came out swinging and didn't stop until the final bell had rung. The Bobcats had seven different players with two hits in only four at-bats.
Saddleback scored three times in the second, third and fourth innings. The Cats opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning when Jenna Juarez singled home Mia Fogle for the opening run of the game. McKenzie Lombard followed with a single to left-center field to score Malia Garcia. Later in the inning Macy Smith reached base on an error, allowing Juarez to score.
Saddleback added three more runs in the third inning, rapping out four hits in the process. The big blow was a double down the left field line from Lombard to score Juarez for a 6-0 lead.
Saddleback added three insurance runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning to set up a Mercy Rule situation. Fogle (pictured) had the clincher when she doubled home Smith and Tasneem Kerdiya for a 9-0 lead.
Smith started on the mound and pitched a complete game in improving to 8-1 on the season. She struck out two over five innings while allowing four hits in the game.
Saddleback is now 12-2 for the season with three games remaining for the beginning of Orange Empire Conference play. The Bobcats are currently riding a five-game winning streak heading into tomorrow when they host College of the Desert. Saddleback and Desert are scheduled to start at 2:00 PM on Wednesday at the Saddleback Softball Complex.
