Cats blank Panthers for 11th win
The Saddleback softball team finished the week 3-0 after an 11-0 win over Chaffey College on Friday afternoon at the Saddleback Softball Complex. The Bobcats scored 10 times in the bottom half of the fourth inning in improving to 11-2.
Saddleback took a 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the first inning when Ka'ui Garcia brought home McKenzie Lombard on a sacrifice. The game remained that way until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Bobcats had their biggest inning of the season. Saddleback sent 14 batters to the plate, rapping out eight hits in the inning while capitalizing on a couple of Chaffey miscues in the field.
Malia Garcia had a big afternoon and had two hits in the fourth inning. Garcia doubled home Tasneem Kerdiya to start the scoring in the fourth inning. She later singled to left field to give the Bobcats a 9-0 advantage.
Sabrina Truesdell finished off the scoring when she doubled to left field to drive home both Kerdiya and Malia Garcia.
Garcia finished 3-for-3 with two runs-scored and three RBI. Kaerdiya and McKenzie Lombard both finished with two hits apiece.
Macy Smith started on the mound and pitched the entire game. Smith surrendered just two hits on the afternoon in improving to 7-1 on the season. She was in a jam in the top half of the fourth inning when Chaffey loaded the bases with no outs in the inning. Smith then got two force plays at the plate and a routine groundout to first base to get out of the jam.
Saddleback is now 11-2 to start the season. The Bobcats will play again at home on Tuesday when they host San Diego City College. The Bobcats and Knights are scheduled to start at 2:00 PM inside the Saddleback Softball Complex.
