Bobcats pick up first win

The Saddleback women's softball team picked up its first win of the season with a 2-1 victory at Southwestern College on Monday in Chula Vista.  The Bobacts took an early lead and made it stick.

Saddleback was trying to kick off some rust after not playing for 12 days due to the rain storms that hit Southern California.  The Bobcats showed no signs of tarnish, scoring two times in the opening inning and then hanging on for the first win of the season.

Saddleback scored first when McKenzie Lombard led off the inning with a single and was later driven home off a triple from Mia Calderon with two outs in the inning.  One batter later, Malia Garcia (pictured) singled home Calderon and the Bobcats had a 2-0 lead.

Southwestern answered with one run in the bottom half of the first inning in what looked like a game that could be a high-scoring affair.  The teams went silent from that point forward as the pitching took over.

Saddleback started Alexa Pfutzenreuter on the mound and she piteched 4.2 innings before giving way to the bullpen.  Pfutzenreuter allowed four hits and one walk in improving to 1-0 on the season.  Macy Smith came in to get the final seven outs of the game in picking up her first save of the season.  Smith allowed no hits with one walk in 2.1 innings of work.

Saddleback outhit Southwestern 7-4 for the day.  Lombard led the Bobcats offensively, finishing 2-for-4 with one run-scored on the afternoon.

Saddleback is now 1-2 overall following the win.  The Bobcats will play at Los Angeles Harbor College on Wednesday looking for a second straight victory.  The Bobcats and Seahawks are scheduled to start at 2:30 PM in Wilmington.
