Danna does it again
The Saddleback track & field team participated in the Coast Classic this week at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa. Sophomore Danna Ibarra Canales stole the show by breaking the program record in the 1,500 meters.
Ibarra Canales set the most recent record last year at the 3C2A State Championships when she ran a 4:39.39 to break a record that had stood for seven years. This week at OCC she bettered that time when she crossed the finish line in 4:39.09 to win among California community college participants and finish second overall. Ibarra Canales now has the top time in the state this season, holding off Orange Coast's Liberty Miller by 2.74 seconds. Jori Paradis of Concordia University won the event in a time of 4:30.90.
Saddleback had other great performances turned in at the OCC Classic. Maya Schweitzer was a winner in the triple jump when she leaped 10.18 meters to win the event. Schweitzer's jump was a bit shy of her season-best score of 10.61 at the Cuyamaca Invitational earlier in the season. She currently has the 8th best triple jump of the season while teammate Emily Fuhrmann is currently 5th in the state rankings. Fuhrmann finished second in the long jump at OCC this week with a jump of 4.88 meters.
Saddleback had one winner on the men's side as defending state champion Micah Krosby won the pole vault with a score of 4.40 meters. Krosby currently has the fourth best vault in the state this season at 4.55 meters at the Cuyamaca Invitational earlier this season.
