Track has big performances at Cuyamaca
The Saddleback track & field team participated at the Cuyamaca Invitational on Saturday in San Diego. The Bobcats had a number of solid performances.
Saddleback had three wins on the day. Danna Ibarra Canales was the big winner, posting wins in both the 1,500 meters and 3,000 meters while breaking a school record in the ladder. Ibarra Canales was the state champion in 2024 in the 1,500 meters and posted a time of 4:49.77 on Saturday, which achieves the "A" standard in her second attempt of the season. Ibarra Canales then followed it up with a win the 3,000 meters when she crossed the finish line in 10:07.71 to win by nearly 27 seconds. Ibarra Canales' time in the 1,500 was the fifth fastest time in the state so far this season. Her time in the 3,000 meters was a new school record, breaking a record set by Deirdre Vaughn (10:19.9) in 1987.
Saddleback had one other win on the day when Griffin Schwab had a leap of 1.93 meters in the high jump. Schwab's jump was an eyelash off the height of his jump at the Soka Invitational (1.95) earlier in the season where he achieved the "A" standard.
Saddleback had one more near miss as Micah Krosby finished in second place in the pole vault. Krosby tied for the top vault of the day at 4.55 meters, which hit the "A" standard. Krosby was the state champion in the pole vault in 2024 when he cleared the exact same height.
Saddleback had a pair of other second place finishers in Maya Schweitzer and Emily Fuhrmann. Schweitzer finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 10.61 meters, which was a season-best. Fuhrmann took second in the long jump with a leap of 5.12 meters. It was eyelash shorter than her jump of 5.18 meters at the Soka Invitational, which is the 10th best leap in the state this season.
