Men’s T&F runs 10th at Regional Finals

The Saddleback men's track & field team finished in 10th place at the Southern California Regional Finals at Antelope Valley College on Saturday.  It was the seventh straight season the Gauchos have finished in the top-10 in the southern half of the state.

Saddleback will send two athletes to the state finals in San Diego this weekend as Ulysses Orozco qualified in both the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters and Aria Sadeghi qualified in the hammer throw.

Orozco qualified the previous weekend in the 10,000 meters and finished in second in the 5,000 meters on Saturday.  The sophomore from El Toro High School ran the race in 15:24.58 and was just two seconds off the pace set by San Bernardino Valley's Michael Teran.  Orozco's best time of the year was 14:55.93 at the Occidental Distance Carnival Spring Break Classic in March, which ranks No. 6 in the state this year.

Sadeghi finished third in the southern half of the state on Saturday when he tossed the hammer 49.81 meters.  The sophomore from Dana Hills High School saved his best throw for last after fouling on two of the first tree throws.  Sadeghi's toss on Saturday was just 0.09 off his best throw of the year, which ranks No. 9 in the state for the year.

Saddleback will compete at the state meet at San Diego Mesa College this Friday and Saturday.
