Swansen pulls off rare double as Gauchos finish 16th

The Saddleback men's swim and dive team finished in 16th place at the state meet this weekend at East Los Angeles College.  Diver Jacob Swansen led the charge, winning two events.

Swansen was looking to become only the second Gaucho diver in history to win both the 3-meter and 1-meter championships on Friday.   He did it with flying colors, scoring 299.00 points and defeating Sierra's Austin Foote by nearly 70 points.  With the win, Swansen equals the feat set by former Gaucho women's diver Alyssa Gibson in 2004.   He scored a dive-high 57 points with an inward 1-and-1/2 half pike on his fourth attempt.

Saddleback finished in 16th place overall with 54 team points.  It was the second best finish at state for the Gaucho men since 2008.  In addition to Swansen, the 200-yard medley relay team finished in 13th place with a time of 1:42.19 while the 400 free relay team finished in 14th place with a time of 3:16.44.
