Cats beat Dogs in latest win
The Saddleback women's flag football team improved to 2-0 with a 20-0 win at the University of Redlands on Friday night in Redlands. The Bobcats dominated from start to finish in the win.
It was the opening game of the season for Redlands, who like Saddleback is in its inaugural season. The Bobcats made it tough on the Bulldogs, allowing just a couple of first downs the entire game.
Saddleback opened the scoring in the final seconds of the opening quarter when Kirra Clavijo found Grace Goedhart in the back of the end zone for a 12-yard score on fourth and goal. The extra point from Clavijo to Olivia Green was good and the Bobcats had a lead it would never relinquish.
Saddleback tacked on six more points before the half when they drove down the field and scored on a 2-yard pass from Leilani De Leon to Isabelle Whittaker. The extra point attempt failed and the Bobcats led 13-0 with 6:00 remaining in the half.
Saddleback took a commanding lead in the third quarter, scoring with 30 seconds remaining in the quarter when Clavijo found Anelly Alba for a 9-yard touchdown. Clavijo then hit Breanna Sandmark for the extra point as the Bobcats led 20-0.
In addition to being efficient on offense the Bobcats were opportunistic on defense. Saddleback had three interceptions for the game, with Mackenzie Smith reeling in two interceptions and Kara Lehmenkuler one.
Alba and Smith (image below) were awarded game balls for Saddleback following the game.
Saddleback is now 2-0 to start the inaugural season. The Bobcats will travel to Irvine Valley College to take on the Lasers on Wednesday. The game is scheduled to start at 2:00 PM in Irvine.
