Flag football coach announced

The Saddleback athletics department is happy to announce the hiring of Rick Brail as the first coach of the newly arriving women's flag football program.  Brail is currently the coach at Tesoro High School.

Brail brings close to 30 years of coaching experience to Saddleback, as he has coached various sports at the high school level.  He started as an assistant baseball coach at Aliso Niguel High School in 1994 and was a baseball and basketball coach at Dana Hills High School from 1997-2001.  Brail was on the coaching staff at Tesoro High School coaching boys' basketball from 2001-2004 and coached the girls JV basketball program at San Clemente High School in 2014.  He was the head baseball coach at Tesoro High School for 20 years from 2001-2020 and most recently started the girls flag football program at Tesoro in 2023.

Brail has been in education since the late 90's, teaching social studies at Tesoro High School, Dana Hills High School and Aliso Niguel High School.  He was tabbed Teacher-of-the-Year at Tesoro High School in 2023 for his outstanding work in the classroom.

"I'm really excited to get things started at Saddleback," Brail said.  "Flag football has emerged locally at the high school level and I can't wait to get things started at the collegiate level."

Saddleback plans to start women's flag football this coming spring, playing games against a variety of colleges and universities in the Southern California region.

Saddleback athletics will be hosting an informational meeting on December 12 at 6:00 PM for anybody interested in joining the team.  The meeting will take place in the home team room inside the stadium.
