McElroy earns distinguished honor

The Saddleback athletics department is proud to announce that former football coach Mark McElroy will be inducted in the San Clemente Sports Wall of Fame this weekend.  McElroy joins a distinguished list of former San Clemente sports personalities.

McElroy coached at Saddleback for 22 years, finishing 158-74 before retiring in 2021.  He was inducted into the California Community College Football Coaches Association (CCCFCA) Hall of Fame in 2024. 

McElroy now will have his name added to the prestigious San Clemente Sports Wall of Fame, located at the Vista Hermosa Sports Park in San Clemente.  He joins other notables such as Sue Enquist (UCLA Softball), Bill Kenney (Kansas City Chiefs), Karch Kiraly (Volleyball) and Gary McKnight (Mater Dei HS Basketball). 

McElroy will be one of four that enter the San Clemente Wall of Fame for 2025, joining Lindsey Pluimer (San Clemente HS Basketball), Jolene Smith (Surfing) and Jorja Smith (Surfing).  The ceremony takes place at the San Clemente Aquatics Center at the Vista Hermosa Sports Park at 5:00 PM on Saturday.
