Saddleback powers past Grossmont

The Saddleback baseball team won its third straight game this week with a 9-5 win at Grossmont College on Friday in El Cajon.  The Bobcats used the long ball in beating the Griffins.

Saddleback trailed 2-0 in the opening inning after Nico Newhan hit a two-run homer off Saddleback starter Jadon Sekhon to give the Griffins an early advantage.  The game remained that way until the top half of the fourth inning when the Saddleback bats responded.  Jacob Beauchaine evened the score with a two-run blast to left field with Rodrigo Barajas on base.

The score was 2-2 heading into the top half of the sixth inning when the Saddleback bats took control.  The Bobcats scored five times over the next two innings, scoring three times in the sixth inning and four times in the seventh inning.  Saddleback took the lead when Bryson Hoier doubled to left field to score Beauchaine.  Later in the sixth inning Dmitri Susidko doubled to left field to score both Hoier and Hayden Carlson.

Saddleback tacked on four more runs in the seventh inning, with the big blow being a two-run homer from Rober Gray (pictured).  It gave the Bobcats a 8-2 lead at the time and gave Gray the team lead with five home runs for the season.

Sekhon pitched through the sixth inning in picking up the win.  He struck out five before giving way to Adam Roldan, who pitched the final three innings in picking up the save.

Beauchaine led the offense, finishing 3-for-5 with three runs-scored and two RBI.  Every player in the starting lineup had a hit for Saddleback as the Cats finished with 12 hits and eight walks on the day.

Saddleback is now 11-3 overall to start the season.  The Bobcats play next at Palomar College on Tuesday at 1:00 PM.
