Kaboom!
The Saddleback baseball team improved to 2-0 after a 14-3 victory over College of the Canyons on Saturday afternoon in Santa Clarita. The Bobcats exploded for three home runs in the game.
Saddleback led from start to finish, scoring six times in the first two innings in taking a 6-0 lead. Dmitri Susidko led off the game with a solo home run in the opening inning to get the Cats out of the gate quickly. Matthew Deutsch finished off the scoring by hitting a grand slam to cap off an 8-run, ninth inning. Robert Gray opened the scoring in the ninth inning with a solo shot as Saddleback sent 11 batters to the plate.
As good as the offense was, the day belonged to the pitching staff and defense. The Bobcats started Damon Anderson Wolf on the mound, and he pitched through the fifth inning in picking up his first win of the season. Anderson Wolf struck out five Cougars before giving way to Sammy Cova, who pitched three strong innings and struck out five of his own. Jaden Sekhon pitched the ninth inning in mop-up duty. Bobcat pitchers finished with 11 strikeouts while allowing four free passes and never hitting a batter after allowing seven walks with five hit batsman in Friday's opener. Saddleback's defense was also flawless after committing three errors the day before.
Susidko led the offensive charge, finishing 2-for-3 with a walk, three runs-scored and three RBI. Susidko (pictured) has scored six runs through the first two games of the season, reaching base six times.
Saddleback is now 2-0 to start the season and has won six straight games dating back to last season. The Bobcats will look to improve on the quick start on Tuesday when they host Palomar College. The Cats and Comets are scheduled to start at 2:00 PM at Saddleback Field.
